The South Wolverhamtpon & Bilston Academy
Important Announcements:

On the 23rd January 2018 six KS3 students to Shireland Collegiate Academy to complete in the Midlands regional finals for the JLR 4x4 challenge, entry class.

Students had to complete their own design for a Land Rover of the future, the design brief they selected was LR Hero, a search and rescue vehicle. Student then had to manufacture the shell – to a strict manufacturing specification, of the car and fit this to the rock crawler remote control vehicle.

Students also had to create a portfolio, a pit display and give a verbal presentation all about their design and how they manufactured the shell. Teams were then scored across 5 areas based on the car meeting the specification, the pit display, the verbal presentation, an interview with 2 JLR engineers about their design and finally their performance on the track. Judges all combined scores at the end of the day and decided where to award prizes.

In the entry class “Ormiston SWB Young Engineers” won 3 awards! Best portfolio, best verbal presentation and finally overall winners of the class! This subsequently entitles students to VIP entry to the national final where the 2 classes above entry complete with other regional winners in an attempt to attend the world finals.

Well done to the students in the team:

Revan Salih (Team captain)
