The South Wolverhamtpon & Bilston Academy

‘As part of a programme to encourage students to consider taking STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects at A Level/BTEC and to gain awareness of careers that are possible within STEM, some year 9 and 10 students have been able to attend events at prominent companies in the UK. These events are run in partnership with the Your Life campaign,  a government initiative that enables young people to experience STEM industries within a working context. This was a great opportunity for students to see what happens at high profile companies, gain an insight into their departments and roles, as well as take part in a series of fantastic STEM related workshops.
6 students visited Ernst and Young and The Royal Bank of Scotland. They completed a number of tasks in teams, with student from other schools, and certainly enhanced their communication and problem solving skills whilst gaining confidence as the day progressed. I felt privileged to be able to take them and see how well they approached each task, showcasing their maturity and interest, all the while demonstrating outstanding behaviour. They were a credit to us!’
